Vtg CHINESE CAST BRONZE & CLOISONNE ENAMEL Silk Iron Press Pot Sea Creatures/Animals 7.75″ long, oval pot is 3 7/8″ wide x 4.25″ longjust shy of 2″ highVery heavy, slanted pot rests on a vertical support leg behind itMagnificent design in a hand cast bronze pot with wooden handle overlaid with a piece of gorgeously hand enameled stippled copperIncredible casting on each side of the pot with totally different designs on each side. The theme is Nature and the Sea. Side 1 features a beetle, a boar or possibly a bear swimming through water, a turtle, and a dragon headSide 2 features mollusks or clams, koi fish or carp, and a charming frogDone with the highest skill level, this was made by a true ArtisanHandle is hand enameled with flowers and leaves wrapping around a stippled copper sleeve. Leaves are green, flowers are blue with a golden toned center. Base of handle is a lightweight dark wood with an interesting open grainThere is a stylized bronze face of some type with long animal ears on the neck of the handleThis piece is VERY OLD and not a modern repro. I am quite sure it was made during the EARLIEST phase of the Republic Of China period [1912-1949], most likely pre-1915 Photographed in indoor & outdoor lighting to accurately show this beautiful pieceHighly collectible, I have seen many of these and this one is by far the most meticulously made and lavishly decorated Excellent Condition No chipped, scratched, damaged, or missing areas on enamel. Unfaded and glossy. Bronze is without damage or dents, not turned, dulled, or damaged at all. There is some slight rub wear where the bronze is a bit lighter on the underside of pot from shelf wear or from being used.Originally would have been used with a hot coal inside for pressing delicate silk fabric This is a fantastic piece, great for a collector and will be beautiful on display in any room.
