eBay Vintage Italian SOMEC Special 56cm Columbus Steel Campagnolo Dropouts Road Bike Frame & Fork ( with Amazing Lug work ) Vintage Italian SOMEC Special Racing Road Bike Frame and Fork with Stunning Lug Work that I suspect is from around mid 1970s. This Special is Extra Special with the Extravagant Lug work, Columbus tubing, and Campagnolo Dropouts. From research seems specials were sometimes less special having Gipiemme drops an less fancy lugs, Kinda odd since they Knocked this early Special out of the park. Looks to be a 56cm. Actual Size is: Seat tube 54.5m Center to Center or 56cm Center to Top with a 54.5cm center to center top tube. The Head tube is 140mm tall. Frame and Fork are Columbus Steel Tubes ( Early Logo ) with Campagnolo Dropouts ( Dropouts looked shaped somewhat ). The 1″ Threaded Fork has 100mm Spacing and the Frame has 126mm Rear Spacing. Rear Chain stay measured from center of bottom bracket to center of rear chain stay drop out is approximately 42.5cm. Frame & Fork is Italian Standard. Serial is a mere 655, I saw some info that Axxx serial may be 1979 and if SOMEC started producing frames in 1973, I am going to assume this frame is from around 1975 – 1976, to further back that up with 126mm spacing and other frame nuances depicting age. Frame is Used, Original paint, unfortunately the frame is from an era where water slide decals were applied over the paint, and time takes it toll on the decals, on the plus side the decals might be able to be removed and new ones applied preserving original paint. Frame set has scratches, nicks & blemishes, paint & decal loss as a used frame would, has some paint loss and possible denting where the front Derailleur was mounted, chrome on frame is pretty good with minimal rust peppering. Cool Frame set with amazing Lug Work & Material Make up. What’s shown weighs a hair over 5.25 lbs. Plenty of Pictures to mull over.
