This is a rare set of antique hand hooked mat rugs featuring the work of Grenfell Labrador Industries, a renowned Canadian maker in the 1920’s. The rug art pieces each show a Husband and Wife hunter in snow shoes. The rugs are unique pieces that showcase the handcrafted art of folk art hunting and fishing scenes featuring the native people from areas in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is perfect for those who appreciate the art of needle arts and crafts. The mats are made of wool and silk stockings. These is a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts of historical hand hooked rugs. These are two of the earlier and rarer rugs to find featuring the Hunter Wife / Woman in Snowshoes and the Hunter Man / Husband in Snowshoes. Made of dyed silk or rayon stocking and wool materials, comprising a rectangular-form example, depicting hunters wearing snowshoes…the man holding a rifle over his shoulder and the woman carrying a club over her shoulder. The background features fir trees. It is in fantastic antique shape with maker tag still attached and fabric showing some minimal fading and discolorations from age.
