Vintage and Collectable Humes & Berg fiber drum case! Holds a drum up to 12″ and diameter 8″ in depth. It shows signs of use with scratches and scuffs on the exterior. Has a little warping, but nothing significant. No cracks or holes. Strap is not original, was added using pop rivets and washers and is functional. Carrying handle is fully intact and functional. Metal feet are all intact. What makes this case a collector’s item: This case was original Seiche equipment. What the hell does THAT mean? Notice the Seiche wave logo in blue, what’s left of it. What does Seiche mean? A Seiche is a small tidal wave that occurs in large lakes, i.e. the Great Lakes as in Chicago’s Lake Michigan. Chicago experiences 2 – 3 Seiche per year that flood out Lakeshore Drive. The music era of that time was shifting from progressive rock to punk and new wave, hence the wave logo. Our logo and creed was “Seiche – The Immediate Wave,” as also reflected on the band’s “Seichonary.” Seiche was a psychedelic progressive rock band in Chicago 1979-1980 Seiche is regarded by rock historians and connoisseurs as the predecessor to what eventually became the Seattle grunge & dark sound that emerged to the forefront over a decade later. I was the drummer in Seiche and purchased this case directly from the Slingerland Drum Factory in Niles, IL. The case was manufactured at the Humes & Berg factory in nearby Hammond, IN. In 1980 Seiche recorded and released our first and only “Demo Press” LP on 12” vinyl containing 7 songs before shortly disbanding. Only 50 records were pressed; we band members, our friends and family probably held onto about 20 of them, but the rest (30) ended up in far corners of the world. Each of us went our separate ways, but over the decades that followed more people seemed to appreciate our Demo LP. To me the band sounded like British progressive rock, namely King Crimson, meets the Doors. One of our biggest fans was Demetra (Dee) Plakas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demetra_Plakas), at that time, girlfriend of Seiche front man, guitarist/vocalist Steve Zahradnik and aspiring, beginning drummer to whom I gave some drum lessons. A few years after Seiche broke up she headed West to Los Angeles with her punk band Problem Dogs, and eventually she became the drummer in the internationally acclaimed, all female rock band L7 led by Donita Sparks. There is no doubt in my mind that Ms. Plakas turned her friends onto our record, our sound. Because L7 were already international superstars, budding stars like Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were hanging out with them, as can be seen in the youtube video of L7 performing live in Rio de Janeiro; those two are sitting on the side of the stage as guests. Over the years people have been contacting me, asking if I’m the drummer from Seiche and if I have any original vinyl records available for sale. One such record sold for $2,800 on some collector website. I do have a few, but would never part with them, at any price as I told them then. A fan from Sao Palo sent me a photo I remember once sitting for, but never saw the print. That photo was stuffed into one of our Seiche LP record sleeves and somehow made it to Brazil. Eventually by 2019 Steve Z., myself and bassist Tom Vess signed a record deal with Jackpot Records of Portland, OR. The deal was to reissue the Seiche Demo Press LP on 12” vinyl, including digital download, extensive photos, liner notes and a bonus song; our rendition of King Crimson’s Lark’s Tongues In Aspic Pt. II. The reissue also features re-mastering of the original 2” multi-tracks by industry acclaimed mastering wizard Kevin Gray. The release happened at the end of November 2019 and offered 100 collector’s editions (sold out in 2 weeks) and 500 retail editions (https://jackpotrecords.com/shop/seiche-demo-press). Both editions include all the same materials; the only difference is that the collector’s edition has the original silk screened blue/white album sleeve and our autographed “Seichonary,” yes each of us actually signed 100 of them. The retail edition album cover is of the photo I got from the fan in Sao Palo. That’s me sitting on the RR tracks in Chicago’s Marquette Park. Evidently there is value in Seiche music and artifacts. I’m not a collector so I really have no use holding onto this case. It has been taking up space in my closet and I have no problem parting with it.
