1985 was arguably the best year in the legendary Miyata 1000 series. I’ve owned many 1000 frame sets from different years and I can say that this strikes me as the most full featured (like the later models) but still charming (like the earlier models). Sadly due to a growing family, lack of space and shifting priorities, I won’t get to build this after acquiring it a couple of years ago, so it must go to someone who can put it back on the road asap. If you’re thinking of spending this much on a forty year old steel frameset you probably already know a good deal about the virtues of this particular line, the Miyata 1000. I will upload the original catalog scans which tell you all you need to know about the geometry and sizing. This is of course the 54cm variant, the second smallest they made. Note the generous set of braze ons, triple bottle cage, convenient mounting screws for fenders, mid fork rack, rear racks, pump pegs. Short of dynamo wiring (which made a fleeting appearance in a later year-model) this frame set has everything you could possibly want or need. And it looks beautiful, in a gunmetal grey sort of color that will go great with silver hardware and brown leather accents. The paint is in remarkable condition for a vintage frame set, the decals from Miyata are famously weak but they are mostly still there. Note that the chainstay loop appears to be bent (this is a cosmetic defect only). Other than that it appears in great condition. The headset is included. I would replace it if if was my own build or at least service it properly. Overall, I can’t imagine this frame has had many miles out in it in the first forty years of its life. Maybe less than a thousand, and it most certainly appears to have always slept indoors. Any questions please ask before buying, as I don’t take returns.
